About
My Musical Background
Hi, welcome to the studio! my name is Kevin Wallace, I am a guitar teacher based in Lancashire, England.
I have been playing guitar for about 30 years now. When I started I was quite a quiet and shy boy with little self confidence. within a few years and with the support of a great teacher, I grew in confidence. I always feel most comfortable with a guitar round my neck.
I learned classical guitar at Opus Music School in Manchester. There I trained in classical techniques and worked up through the ABRSM grades. My teacher helped me to develop a good solid foundation in techniques, playing posture and theory.
I also learned to play electric guitar and formed a band at school, I particularly enjoyed playing music by Pink Floyd & Queen. This really boosted my confidence to the point of organising, hosting and performing in a set of concerts in front of a few hundred people raising money for charity.
After school I trained as a sound engineer at SSR Manchester then moved to Oxford to work in a recording studio. Since moving back to the northwest I worked in music shops where I began to teach guitar privately. Over the years I have played electric guitar both in the studio and with live bands.
Teaching Experience
I have been teaching the guitar full time for just over 18 years with Bury Music Service also having taught at Opus Music School in Manchester, The musical charity "Crescendo" and now through private contracts with local schools including Balladen CP (Rawtenstall), St-Veronica's RC (Helmshore) and Haslingden High School.
Over the last 20 years I have also built up my own private teaching studio in Rossendale. In 2020 all my lessons went temporarily online. Although this was initially daunting I had great fun learning new techniques.
Online teaching has tremendous benefits and when combined with face to face lessons I am able to provide a much better and more engaging learning experience for my students.
Even though some were still keen to return to the studio, A large number of students have opted to stay online and all have embraced a more flexible approach.
Guitar was not the first teaching experience for me I was initially trained in coaching martial arts with Trafford Aikido Club.
In studio and online Classes
Lessons can take place online, in my private studio in Helmshore, or a mixture of the two.

- Students not only attend a lesson, they are also invited and encouraged to join a regular online practice session.
- These extra sessions are designed to ensure that students maintain the momentum from lessons, revising and practicing the right things in the right way.
- This enables faster and more consistent progress. There is also access to online chat support and extra videos covering aspects visited in lesson.
- All lessons are tailored to the students needs, whether you want to work towards qualifications, gigs, recording projects or just having fun playing music for yourself.
- Your first lesson would include a consultation to agree on the best course structure to help you achieve your goals with the instrument.
- After each lesson, you will receive a personalised "practice menu" to help guide your study to prepare you for the next session and get the best out of your lessons.
